Virtus Hero - May of 2009

The Smith Family of Enoch, Utah

Renee and Ken Smith's family of Enoch, Utah exemplifies the courage, sacrifice and selflessness that make our country the best in the world.  We are so honored to be able to name them as our May 2009 Virtus Hero of the Month.

Claudette "Renee" Smith, mother of seven children, just recently graduated from U.S. Army Basic Training in Fort Jackson, SC.

Their daughter married her high school sweetheart, who is now deployed in Iraq, U.S. Army, Alpha Co. 1-18 Infantry, 2nd Heavy Brigade, and are expecting their first child in June.

They have a son that entered the U.S. Army in November 2008.

They have another son that is enlisting in the U.S. Air Force when he graduates from high school.

On February 13, 2004, the Smith family was informed that their son, SGT Jeremy Smith, was killed while serving active duty in the U.S. Army, 961st Quartermaster.  It was a very difficult time for the family, but they were extremely proud of Jeremy and his desire to serve his country.

Renee decided that she wanted to find a way to help the brave men and women of the Armed Forces, so one morning last November, she called the local recruiter and enlisted in the U.S. Army.  She left for basic training at Fort Jackson, SC on January 19, 2009 and graduated on April 3, 2009. She is currently in AIT at Fort Sam Houston, 232nd Med BN as a 68W, Medic, and is expected to graduate on July 31, 2009.  Renee hopes to help save the lives of soldiers to spare others the pain her family has endured.

Please join the Virtus Apparel team in thanking this remarkable family for their sacrifice and service to our nation.  It is because of people like them that we have our freedom and liberties and we can never begin to repay them for what they have done for us.  God bless them.
